With stays in our exclusive Skydomes and a restorative afternoon at the Cocalmayo Hot Springs, this is the definitive Salkantay experience.

  • Duration: 5 Days / 4 Nights
  • Highlights: Humantay Lake, Salkantay Pass & Lake, Hot Springs, Coffee Experience, Llactapata Inca ruins (view point to Machu Picchu) and Machu Picchu.
  • The Skydome Advantage: Overnight stays at our Soraypampa and Colpapampa luxury sites.
  • Difficulty: Challenging (Balanced with dedicated recovery days)

Why Choose the 5-Day Expedition?

  • Full Ecosystem Immersion: More time to explore the transition from the high Andean “Puna” to the lush “Cloud Forest.”
  • Restorative Luxury: Features a dedicated afternoon at the Cocalmayo Hot Springs and a Sauna/Jacuzzi session at our Colpapampa site.
  • Cultural Depth: Includes an interactive coffee plantation tour to learn about local Amazonian agriculture.
  • Superior Acclimatization: A steadier pace that helps your body adjust to the high altitudes of the Salkantay Pass.

Details of the trip

Day 1 | The Gateway: Cusco – Humantay Lake – Soraypampa

We depart Cusco for the trailhead at Challacancha. A moderate 3-hour trek leads us to our first luxury basecamp. In the aftenoon explore the Humantay Lake.

  • The Experience: After a chef-prepared lunch, we hike to the crystalline Humantay Lake.
  • The Night: Your first night is spent in our Soraypampa Skydomes, featuring panoramic views of the glacier under the starlit sky.
  • Stats: 12km trekking | Max Altitude: 4,200m.

Day 2 | The Peak: Salkantay Pass – Colpapampa

Today we conquer the Salkantay Pass (4,650m). We also take an exclusive side trip to the turquoise Salkantay Lake, a hidden gem rarely visited by standard tours.

  • The Night: Descend to our Colpapampa Skydomes. Use the Sauna and Jacuzzi to recover from the day’s 22km trek before a gourmet dinner.
  • Stats: 22km trekking | Max Altitude: 4,650m.

Day 3 | The Tropics: Hot Springs & Coffee Plantation

We trade the snow for the jungle. Hike through lush orchards of cacao, avocado, and passionfruit.

  • The Experience: Visit a local coffee plantation for a “bean-to-cup” experience. In the afternoon, we head to the Cocalmayo Hot Springs for a long, therapeutic soak in natural volcanic pools.
  • Stats: 15km trekking | Max Altitude: 2,100m.

Day 4 | The Perspective: Llaqtapata – Aguas Calientes

Trek along a remote section of the original Inca Trail to the Llaqtapata Ruins. This high ridge provides a unique, “eye-level” view of Machu Picchu from across the valley.

  • The Finish: Descend to Hidroeléctrica for lunch and then continue to Aguas Calientes for a comfortable hotel stay and celebratory dinner.
  • Stats: 16km trekking | Max Altitude: 3,600m.

Day 5 | The Icon: Machu Picchu – Cusco

The final reward. We take an early bus for a comprehensive 2-hour guided tour of the Machu Picchu Citadel. Return to Cusco via the scenic train and private transport.

What Our Guests Say

Real experiences from travelers who slept under the Andean sky

The Dome Made the Trek Unforgettable

We did the full Salkantay Trek and stayed at the dome on night two. After a hard day of hiking, coming back to a real bed, hot shower and that view of the mountain? Nothing compares to that.

Best Night of My Life

I have camped across Patagonia and Nepal but nothing matched this. The dome is warm, beautifully designed and the silence at 4,600m is something else entirely. I woke up at 3am just to stare at the stars.
