Day 2 | Sacred Valley: Pisac to Moray to Maras Salt Mines to Ollantaytambo
Mirador of Taray and Pisac Tombs and Terraces We start at 7.30 am when guide picks you up at hotel in private van. First stop Mirador of Taray for expansive view of Urubamba Valley and traditional farming villages. You see how agriculture has changed little in five hundred years. Drive to Pisac archeological site where you see impressive Inca cemetery with more than 2,000 tombs, farming terraces, Inca tunnel and religious area. Two hours exploring Inca city. Then down to colorful market for 20 minutes and drive to Urubamba for lunch.
Moray The Inca Laboratory Next stop Moray also known as Greenhouse of the Incas. Deep basin of terraces carved into huge bowl with varied microclimates depending on depth. Incas used it to discover optimal growing conditions for crops.
Maras Salt Mines Natural Pink Salt Continue to Maras to look down onto pre Inca salt mines Salineras. Thousands of salt pans passed down since before Inca times. Hot spring at top discharges salt water into pans and evaporates to produce salt. One of few places where you find naturally pink salt.
Ollantaytambo Fortress and Return to Cusco Finally drive to Ollantaytambo to explore Inca village intact since Inca times and massive ruins. Visit Sun Temple at top of terraces and learn about importance during Spanish conquest. Return to Cusco and overnight in hotel.

Day 3 | Cusco to Challacancha to Humantay Lake to Soraypampa Sky Domes
Early Drive to Mollepata and Challacancha Trailhead: This hiking adventure begins at 5.00 am with pickup from hotel. Drive 2 hours to Mollepata through Andes with views of villages Izcuchaca and Limatambo and snow capped Salkantay Mountain. Breakfast in local restaurant. Continue to Challacancha trailhead at 3,650 meters. Guide gives final instructions and horses take your duffel.
Walk to Soraypampa Base Camp: From here walk 3 hours moderate to Soraypampa on flat Inca water channel with mountain views. At Soraypampa base camp at 3,900 meters enjoy hearty lunch with views of Humantay Mountain 5,900 meters and Salkantay Mountain 6,217 meters. Check into exclusive panoramic Sky Domes and free time after lunch.
Afternoon Hike to Humantay Lake: By early afternoon 2.5 hour round trip hike up to Humantay Lake at 4,200 meters. Take in crystalline blue waters under glacier. Be mesmerized by beauty of this creation of nature. Hike back down for happy hour with hot drinks, popcorn and cookies. Dinner in dining dome with briefing for next day.

Day 4 | Soraypampa to Salkantay Pass to Huayracmachay to Colpapampa Sky Domes
Sunrise Breakfast and Ascent to Salkantay Pass: Challenging and most rewarding day. Guide wakes you with hot mug of coca tea to dome before you get up. After tasty breakfast continue upwards by 7 snakes path through mountains for 3 hours until Salkantay Pass at 4,650 meters. Feel truly awed by spectacular views of three towering snow capped mountains Salkantay, Humantay, Huayanay. These peaks are sacred Apus and guide tells you about their importance in Andean beliefs. Below you see rivers of whitewater and small scenic lakes.
Descent to Huayracmachay and Colpapampa: Head down 2 hours to Huayracmachay for hot lunch. Later descend 3 hours to next glamping experience in Colpapampa at 2,850 meters at our Sky Dome with sauna and jacuzzi. Along way enjoy refreshing lush green valleys and spectacular waterfalls. Day 5 | Colpapampa to Llactapata Viewpoint to Hydroelectric to Aguas Calientes
Breakfast and Ascent to Puncuyoc Pass: After hot drink enjoyed in your comfy dome, last delicious breakfast prepared by chef. Take local transport to Lucmabamba at 2,100 meters then walk in footsteps of Inca along ancient and remote Inca Trail for 3 hours to Puncuyoc Pass 2,700 meters. Along way amazed at incredible views of deep valleys with fruit plantations.
Llactapata Viewpoint and Descent to Hydroelectric: Finally arrive to Llactapata Inca Ruins located right across valley from Machu Picchu. Take time to enjoy strategic location of Citadel of Machu Picchu and its surrounding mountains Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu and Aobamba Canyon. This view is best on Salkantay trek and most tours skip it. Descend 2 hours to Hydroelectric plant primary power source for Cusco. Day 6 | Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu to Cusco
First Bus to Machu Picchu and Guided Tour: Day you have been waiting for. After early breakfast at hotel take first buses up to Machu Picchu to be there for sunrise. Extraordinary site you will not want to miss. Guide gives tour 2.5 hours covering most important parts of Machu Picchu Citadel. Learn how Machu Picchu is divided into three sectors agricultural, residential and religious. Circuit 2 gives you classic photo from Guardian House.
Free Time and Return to Cusco: When you have had your fill of exceptional views take bus down to Aguas Calientes for lunch not included. Depending on train departure time you may have time for shopping, museum or hot springs. Expedition train back to Ollantaytambo at 2.55 pm or 3.20 pm following spectacular Urubamba River. Close to Aguas Calientes canyon narrow and river has beautiful whitewater. Also see Winay Wayna from train high on canyon wall. Driver meets you at train station to take you back to hotel in Cusco in private vehicle. Arrive by 7.00 pm.

Day 7 | Cusco to Rainbow Mountain to Cusco
Early Drive to Llacto Trailhead: Pickup from hotel at 4.00 am to begin Rainbow Mountain Trek Adventure. Drive 3 hours through South Valley of Cusco to trailhead at Llacto 4,638 meters. Along way amazing views of farming Inca terraces, traditional villages and high Andean peaks.
Breakfast and Hike to Rainbow Mountain: Breakfast with herds of alpacas and llamas, then start hike following lovely stream with views of Ausangate Mountain and glaciers. Interact with local people who still keep traditional Quechua culture alive. Learn about their traditional clothes and significance of different hats worn by men. Ask guide to teach you few words of Quechua.
Rainbow Mountain Summit and Red Valley Option: After total hike 1.5 hours reach Rainbow Mountain at 5,020 meters. After admiring unique beauty you have time to explore area. Take pictures or soak up view. Spend 30 minutes at top. Afterwards optional hike across to top of Red Valley. This walk takes 45 minutes longer to get back to trailhead. Hike back down 1 hour, enjoy freshly prepared lunch by our cook. Drive 3 hours back to Cusco and drop at hotel arriving around 5.00 pm. End of 7 day package.

Altitude and How to Prepare for 5,020 Meters
This 7 day package goes from 2,800 meters in Sacred Valley to 5,020 meters at Rainbow Mountain and 4,650 meters at Salkantay Pass. That is higher than any point on the Inca Trail. Sacred Valley Day 2 is your acclimatization day before trek. You sleep at 3,900 meters Night 3 in Soraypampa Sky Domes and 2,850 meters Night 4 in Colpapampa Sky Domes. You must arrive in Cusco Day 1 at least 24 hours before Sacred Valley. Day 4 crossing Salkantay Pass and Day 7 Rainbow Mountain are hardest because of altitude. Walk slow, tell guide how you feel and drink at least 3 liters per day. Guides carry oxygen and pulse oximeter all 7 days.
What Horses Carry and What You Carry
You travel light all week. For Sacred Valley Day 2 and Rainbow Day 7 you only need daypack. For Salkantay Days 3 to 5 our horses and mules carry your duffel up to 7kg so you only carry daypack on trail. Your big suitcase stays free and safe in our office in Cusco at Garcilaso 210 during Salkantay section and meets you at your Cusco hotel Day 6. Your duffel meets you each night at our Sky Domes in Soraypampa and Colpapampa and is transferred to Aguas Calientes hotel Day 5. Day 6 and Day 7 you only need daypack.
Money and Extra Costs in 7 Days
Almost everything included: all private transport, 3 nights hotel in Cusco, 2 nights Sky Domes with sauna and jacuzzi, 1 night hotel in Aguas Calientes, all meals as per itinerary, horses and mules, Machu Picchu Circuit 2 ticket, bus and train, guides. You only need small cash in soles for water on road, entrance to Humantay Lake 20 soles, entrance to Maras Salt Mines 20 soles if not included, lunch in Aguas Calientes Day 6, dinner Day 6, coffee at Llactapata viewpoint, Cocalmayo Hot Springs optional 10 soles and tips for guide, chef, driver and horse team if you want to tip. Markets in Pisac and Aguas Calientes rarely take cards and never have change for large bills. Get soles in Cusco, ATMs in Aguas Calientes charge high fees.
Insurance That Covers 5,020 Meters
We recommend real mountain insurance, not basic travel cover. Your policy must cover trekking and hiking up to 5,500 meters for Rainbow Mountain, emergency evacuation in remote Andes, medical treatment, trip cancellation and train delays. Machu Picchu, Salkantay and Rainbow Mountain tickets are 100 percent non refundable by Peruvian law. Helicopter evacuation from Salkantay or Rainbow is very expensive without cover. Make sure rainy season landslides and strikes are covered if traveling November to March.
Passport and Tickets You Must Have With You
Bring your original passport that matches your Machu Picchu ticket. Exact same number and name you gave at booking. You will show it at Pisac checkpoint Day 2, Moray Day 2, Mollepata checkpoint Day 3, Machu Picchu entrance Day 6 and Rainbow Mountain checkpoint Day 7 and to board trains. A photo or photocopy is not accepted at Machu Picchu and means no entry and no refund. Carry your train and bus tickets Day 5 and Day 6, we give them at briefing Day 1. Keep passport dry, we provide plastic cover.
Packing List for Sacred Valley, Salkantay and Rainbow in One Duffel
You need four seasons in one bag. Warm sun in Sacred Valley, freezing at Salkantay Pass, humid jungle at Colpapampa and icy wind at Rainbow Mountain.
Keep duffel for horses at 7kg max including sleeping bag if you rent. Daypack for daily use must not be bigger than 25L for Machu Picchu.
Essential Documents: Original passport mandatory, train and bus tickets Day 6, small cash in soles.
Protection: Sunscreen SPF 50 mandatory, sunglasses with UV protection, sun hat for trek, beanie and gloves for Salkantay Pass and Rainbow, insect repellent for cloud forest Day 5.
