Details of the trip

Day 1 | Rainbow Mountain – High Andes Experience

Your day begins early with pickup from your hotel in Cusco around 4:00 AM, followed by a scenic drive through the South Valley toward the trailhead.

The Experience

After breakfast near the base, begin your ascent toward Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), one of the most unique geological formations in the Andes.

The trail gradually climbs through high-altitude valleys, surrounded by herds of alpacas, traditional communities, and views of snow-capped peaks.

After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, you reach the viewpoint at over 5,000 meters, where the mineral-striped mountain reveals its full spectrum of colors.

Optional Upgrade: Horseback Support

For those who prefer a less physically demanding ascent, horses are available for most of the route, allowing you to enjoy the landscape without the full effort of the climb (final section requires a short walk).

Take time at the summit to explore, take photos, and absorb the scale of the surrounding Andean range before descending back to the trailhead.

The Finish

After lunch, return by private transport to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon, with time to rest before your early departure the next day.

  • Hiking Time: Approx. 3–4 hours total
  • Max Altitude: 5,020m
  • Return to Cusco: 5:00 PM

Day 2 | Machu Picchu by Train – Full Day Expedition

An early start marks the transition from natural wonder to cultural masterpiece.

Early Departure

Pickup from your hotel around 4:00 AM, followed by transfer to Ollantaytambo station.

Board the Expedition Train and travel through the Sacred Valley, following the Urubamba River as the landscape shifts dramatically from high Andes to cloud forest.

Arrival to Aguas Calientes

Arrive in Aguas Calientes, where your guide will meet you and assist with the shuttle bus to the entrance of Machu Picchu.

Enter Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The Dome Made the Trek Unforgettable

We did the full Salkantay Trek and stayed at the dome on night two. After a hard day of hiking, coming back to a real bed, hot shower and that view of the mountain? Nothing compares to that.

Best Night of My Life

I have camped across Patagonia and Nepal but nothing matched this. The dome is warm, beautifully designed and the silence at 4,600m is something else entirely. I woke up at 3am just to stare at the stars.
