Details of the trip

Day 1 | Cusco – Machu Picchu – Return

Early Departure

Your day begins early with hotel pickup in Cusco around 4:00 AM, followed by a private transfer to Ollantaytambo station.

Board the Expedition Train and begin one of the most scenic rail journeys in South America. As the train follows the Urubamba River, the landscape transforms, steep canyon walls, Inca terraces, and dense vegetation signal your transition toward the cloud forest.

Arrival to Aguas Calientes

Arrive in Aguas Calientes, the gateway town to Machu Picchu. Your guide will meet you at the station and assist with the shuttle bus to the entrance of the citadel.

The Experience: Machu Picchu

Enter Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Enjoy a 2 to 3-hour guided tour, exploring its most important sectors:

  • Agricultural terraces
  • Ceremonial temples
  • Residential areas

Your guide will explain how the city was organized and the purpose behind its architecture, giving context to what you see beyond the iconic views.

After the guided portion, you’ll have free time to take photos and absorb the atmosphere at your own pace.

Return Journey

Descend by shuttle bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have time for lunch or a short walk through town.

In the afternoon, board the Expedition Train back to Ollantaytambo, once again following the Urubamba River through the canyon.

From there, private transport returns you to Cusco, arriving at your hotel in the evening.

  • Train Departures (Return): Between ~3:20 PM – 6:20 PM
  • Arrival in Cusco: Approx. 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

The Dome Made the Trek Unforgettable

We did the full Salkantay Trek and stayed at the dome on night two. After a hard day of hiking, coming back to a real bed, hot shower and that view of the mountain? Nothing compares to that.

Best Night of My Life

I have camped across Patagonia and Nepal but nothing matched this. The dome is warm, beautifully designed and the silence at 4,600m is something else entirely. I woke up at 3am just to stare at the stars.
