Details of the trip

Day 1 | Horseback Riding to Humantay Lake – Soraypampa Skydomes

We depart Cusco early in the morning, traveling through the Anta plains toward the high valley of Soraypampa, the gateway to the Salkantay region.

After arriving at base camp, our horses and experienced arrieros (local horse handlers) prepare the equipment for the first riding stage of the expedition.

The Experience

Ride steadily toward Humantay Lake, one of the most striking alpine lakes in Peru. The trail climbs gradually through open mountain terrain until the brilliant turquoise waters appear beneath the Humantay glacier.

Arriving on horseback allows you to reach this spectacular viewpoint without the usual uphill hike.

After time to explore and photograph the lake, we return to Soraypampa by hiking.

The Night

Check into your private Skydome at the foot of the mountains. Enjoy a chef-prepared dinner and watch the sunset illuminate the glaciers before a clear Andean night filled with stars.

  • Activity: Horseback riding & Hiking
  • Riding Time: Approx. 1–1.5 hours
  • Max Altitude: 4,200m

Day 2 | Salkantay Pass Ride – Trek to Colpapampa

After breakfast we saddle up once again for one of the most iconic segments of the entire route.

The Experience

Ride through high Andean valleys toward the legendary Salkantay Pass (4,630m), the highest point of the Salkantay trail. Prayer flags mark the summit where massive glacial walls surround the route and the scale of the Andes becomes fully apparent.

From here the journey changes character. We begin the trekking descent, leaving the alpine puna behind and entering greener valleys where waterfalls, orchids, and cloud forest vegetation begin to appear.

The Stay

By afternoon we arrive at our Colpapampa Sky Domes Camp, located deep within the cloud forest zone.

Relax with a hot shower and enjoy out HOT TUB bedore dinner in the panoramic dining dome while the sounds of the jungle replace the silence of the high mountains.

  • Activities: Horseback riding + Trekking
  • Distance: Approx. 15–18km total
  • Max Altitude: 4,630m

Day 3 | eBike Adventure to Lucmabamba

Today we trade boots for wheels.

After breakfast we meet our electric mountain bikes and begin a scenic ride through the lush Santa Teresa valley.

The Experience

The eBike allows us to cover distance efficiently while enjoying the ride through coffee plantations, fruit orchards, and warm jungle air. This section of the route reveals a completely different Andes: vibrant, humid, and alive with tropical vegetation.

We arrive at Lucmabamba, a small agricultural community known for its coffee farms.

Optional Afternoon Experience

In the afternoon you can visit the famous Cocalmayo Hot Springs, where steaming natural pools overlook the Urubamba river valley, a perfect recovery after three active days.

Then we take the train to Aguas Calientes wherer we sleep in a hotel.

  • Activity: Electric mountain biking
  • Distance: Approx. 20–25km riding
  • Max Altitude: 2,800m

Day 4 | Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco

What Our Guests Say

Real experiences from travelers who slept under the Andean sky

The Dome Made the Trek Unforgettable

We did the full Salkantay Trek and stayed at the dome on night two. After a hard day of hiking, coming back to a real bed, hot shower and that view of the mountain? Nothing compares to that.

Best Night of My Life

I have camped across Patagonia and Nepal but nothing matched this. The dome is warm, beautifully designed and the silence at 4,600m is something else entirely. I woke up at 3am just to stare at the stars.
