Full Day | Cusco – Cusipata – Rainbow Mountain – Return to Cusco
We begin early in the morning with hotel pickup in Cusco, typically between 4:00 and 5:00 AM, heading south toward the Andes.
The Journey
The drive takes approximately 3 hours, passing through traditional villages, agricultural terraces, and high-altitude valleys as the sun rises over the mountains.
We stop in the Cusipata area for breakfast before continuing to the trailhead at around 4,600 meters above sea level.
The Experience
The hike begins gradually, following a wide valley surrounded by snow-capped peaks and herds of alpacas.
The ascent to Rainbow Mountain takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on pace and acclimatization.
As you gain elevation, the air becomes thinner and the landscape more dramatic, until the final climb reveals the vibrant colors of Vinicunca.
At the summit, you’ll have time to explore, take photos, and take in panoramic views of the surrounding Andes.
For those who want an extended experience, there is the option to visit the nearby Red Valley, a striking landscape of deep red mountain formations.
The Return
After descending back to the trailhead, we return to Cusipata for lunch before beginning the drive back to Cusco.
Arrival is typically in the late afternoon or early evening.
